Dear fellow gardeners,
Best wishes for a good and generous harvest. And to remind you please that our wonderful volunteers are collecting excess produce to hand over to charity. Do give what you can. A table and box will be in the car park entrance on Sunday September 1 for you to make donations to local groups that support communities in need. And of course you are very welcome to help volunteers pick excess produce. Liz Kolbeck @Liz Kolbeck is coordinating the volunteer working party at 12 noon outside the shop.
The volunteers have also been busy taking down trees and tidying branches after Storm Lillian, thankyou! We have emptied the corral … if you need to dump more wood there , the guidance on the signs and do not include compost. Please compost your weeds on your own plots and don’t lean compost up against trees…it damages their bark. The council is already monitoring one tree for any damage and I’ve put up a sign there offenders to move their weeds.
If you need your trees pruning, you can contact Dan at Manchester Tree Co-op who delivered a pruning lesson for us earlier this year. He can give you a quote on 07968378022.
The shop will reopen after its summer break at 11am on Sunday September 1. Karen, Debs and their helpers will have Kings Seed catalogues so you can plan for the coming year. Also they welcome more volunteers …pop in to sign up for a session and enjoy meeting your fellow allotmenteers. Also if you’d like the shop to stock anything, just let them know. There is a section in the shop book for writing down ideas.
Sadly we have had reports of crops and equipment going missing from plots. I’m hoping to meet with our community police but meantime if you suspect a theft, please report it to GMP.

You’ll be noticing the huge changes to the Community Access Plot by the polytunnel. Gardeners are now moving on site and planting up their beds. As well as individual beds, there will be shared spaces to grow more for the community. Well done to everyone involved in this fantastic effort, it really shows how much Bradley Fold cares about its local community and gives back to the community through sharing. And queries please speak to Julie Heydon @Julie Heydon
And finally a couple more dates for your diary. We will be celebrating 70 years of Bradley Fold at 3pm on Sunday September 29 at the BBQ site. Please bring your chairs and tables and your picnic favourites to enjoy a shared spread with a burger and sausage BBQ on the side. It’s another chance to meet fellow gardeners, learn a little about the history of the site and celebrate our community.
Another date for your diary: at Christmas our gathering will be held at St Caths at 12 noon on December 15. All contributions welcome.
With best regards, from the committee at Bradley Fold,
Janine Cottingham
