Hello allotmenteers,
I hope you are enjoying the fruits of your hard work, and the vegetables too.
New folk among us might have wondered about the occasional courgette and other excess traditionally left on the concrete steps outside the shop. These are to share.
Please feel free to take them home if you need them or pass on to friends and family. Donations are always welcome in the shop when it’s open on Sundays but not necessary.
We also have forthcoming “produce days” on Sunday July 27 and Sunday September 7 where we set up tables outside the shop for you to leave excess produce which we will take to charities, food banks and other good causes.
If you need help picking any of your produce , please let us know in the shop or fill in one of our online forms. No one wants vegetables to go to waste, and our charitable giving helps us to win funds for our general improvement project on site, so it’s a win all round.
Please put Important dates in your diaries this weekend July 4 and 5 when we are being good neighbours to our friends at Didsbury Sports Ground.
They are having a fair so please don’t park outside or near our entrance, they need their large vehicles to drive into our gateway before reversing into our sports ground, please help, and park instead in our carpark by the woods.
The sports club are very welcoming if we need to use their toilets, please occasionally buy a coffee or some cold refreshments.
Thanks also to everyone who came along and supported the summer bbq and scarecrow competition. Nice to catch up with old friends, meet new folk and share delicious food. Here are some pictures.
And what a marvellous new website thanks to our colleague Sean. Please explore and use, we’ll be adding some extra information and some history as time goes on, feedback is always welcome.
We’ve had great feedback from the Environment Agency and others about our tremendous recovery since the January flood.
Our volunteers have been exceptional and the organisation by Liz, Phil, and others has been outstanding… thanks to everyone involved.
Play your part by following us on social media and join a volunteer working party. We ask everyone to volunteer at least once a year… have you signed up yet for your stint?
Also to ensure we all play our part, please keep paths clear around your plot … make sure you don’t grow produce on the pathway between yourself and your neighbour to allow access to the plots – also please take your turn in cutting grass and replacing woodchip as necessary.
You’ll find regular deposits of woodchip near the shop and by the woods, these are donated by local tree surgeons and free for you to use.
You can keep up to date on day to day issues by joining our Facebook group Bradley Fold Allotments or ask to become a member of the WhatsApp Bradley Fold Action group.
And you can meet more like-minded gardeners by volunteering in the shop or popping in on Sundays when it’s open from 11 to 12.
Meantime do carry on growing and enjoy the summer.
Best regards from all your committee,
Janine
Chair, Bradley Fold Allotments
